Sunglasses Make You Look Mean (mix)
I'll never leave you again ... again! Actually, my excuse for lack of new mixes is new beats and remixes. You can check out all the new tunes here.
I'm going to attempt to merge these two blogs into one, so in the future please visit http://tomfeiza.blogspot.com for mixes, tunes, rants, and raves.

DLSMusicDevice - Mac OS SoundFont player
DLSMusicDevice is a built-in AU SoundFont player for the Mac OS. It's listed under the Apple Audio Units.
Download some SoundFonts (piano is default) here:

Control Serato without turntables: M-Audio X-Session
Here's a great little controller for Serato. It really comes in handy when there are turntable/vibration/needle problems (or no turntables at all!).
M-Audio X-Session
You can set up the MIDI in Serato to control:
- Coarse pitch
- Fine pitch
- Start/stop
- Cue points
- Pitch bend up/down
iPod Headphones Suck
iPod headphones suck. They fall out all the time and have no bass. Do yourself a HUGE favor and buy some new headphones for your iPod. I promise it will be a whole new world once you get a new pair.

Ableton Live: Complex Warp
Attention DJs (or anyone warping long audio or entire songs): Turn on "Complex" warping.
Sometimes I notice a tiny stutter when warping long pieces in the "Beats" mode. It sounds like the program is trying to re-correct the warp on every 16th note. Switching to "Complex" mode removes this problem.
Tip: Record MIDI at Lower Tempos
Perhaps everyone already knows this tip, but just in case ...
When recording a complex or fast MIDI part, record at a slower tempo (e.g. 100bpm for a 130bpm track). This is a great way to get that human groove/feel with parts that are hard to play in real time.

Ableton Live 7 Slice to Midi for Drum re-edits
Here's an example of chopping a loop into MIDI notes for re-edits. The whole secret is in the "Slice to MIDI track" right-click.
You can make your slices fit to the grid, but I like to place warp markers on each hit, then slice according to warp markers.
iTunes: Multiple Libraries
I have one library for DJ tracks (Serato), and another library for listening music.
To create or use a different iTunes library:
- If iTunes is open, quit it.
- Hold down the Option key while you open iTunes.
- In the dialog that appears, do one of the following:
- To create a new library, click Create Library.
- To choose a different library, click Choose Library.
